![]() The weather finally seems to have broken here in the Ozarks. It's Missouri, so I'm sure winter hasn't had its last say, but for now, spring is making her presence known. And with that little bit of sunshine comes a lot more smiles from my family and a whole lot more work around my farm. It's the season when we labor from sunup to sundown and melt into the couch at night. And yet, we're all smiles. It feels so good to be kissed by the sun again. My oldest son and I spent our day yesterday working on a cob chicken coop. We're considering it our practice run before building our cob house. We're finding it is every bit as labor intensive as promised, but it's also surprisingly fun work. Of course, maybe we're just more forgiving of it because of the big, beautiful sun shining in the sky. For those considering differing chicken coops, I will post the how-to tomorrow. Or shortly thereafter - deadlines don't seem to be my thing lately. I'm finding that homesteading and writing are often at odds with each other. I'm struggling to find the energy for both. Winter's last push was a brutal one; it took its toll on us and on the animals. But that feels really far away right now and all I can think about is getting our house built. Our little cabin was quite the adventure - it's been a winter we'll never forget - but I am so very ready to have a house again. (A kitchen! I miss my kitchen so much!) Hopefully, we'll finish our little chicken coop today and then we'll be on to bigger and better cob adventures. Wish us luck. :o)
