When I first realized my dream of having my own little patch of land, it was a charming place in the Missouri Ozarks with a bluff where the fireflies would dance, weaving their magic spell.
For seven years, I learned to live off the land I loved. Some things went well, some not so much. We lived in a tiny house before it was chic, made our own butter, and raised our own food. It was amazing. And it was awful. Still, when we had to leave, a part of my soul stayed behind. Don't get me wrong: I was exhausted from trying to run a farm, raise a family, and work a corporate job. It was nice being back in the land of takeout and experiencing things like art walks and music festivals. But the land never stopped calling to me, and now that I find myself at a crossroads again, I know it's time to start my homesteading journey anew. Whether you call it homesteading, permaculture, or sustainability, I know I'm happiest living a simpler life. I want to sink my hands into the dirt again. Raise chickens. Harvest rainwater. Build things. The dream of Firefly Bluff didn't last, but a new one has been born in its place: Firefly Meadow. Whether you're curious about living more sustainably or just like pictures of cute animals, I encourage you to keep an eye on this page as the journey unfolds. There's gardens to plant and chickens to hatch and a cabin to build. Won't you join me?
